Big Time FootballWork Doers Football Club (often known as WDFC, the Doers or by the nickname the Manpons) are an American amateur football club based in Seattle, Washington. WDFC play in the Greater Seattle Soccer League and are a mildly successful club, having won nothing really while sporting a 22-12-6 all-time record in four seasons. The club's colours have traditionally been black and white, but have evolved over time -- adding tennis ball green and pink to the spectrum. Similarly, the club have changed home grounds over time; first calling Summit Field home, but the team later moved cross town to Warren G. Magnuson Park. Many, if not the majority of the Manpons squad hail from Northeast Seattle making them the Offiicial club of NE Seattle and also the self-proclaimed unofficial official almuni club of Bishop Blanchet High School. Humble BeginningsWork Doer's storied history began in the year of the rat in the Summer of 2008 with some Northeast Seattle bros knocking a ball around on the field turf of Summit Field. Just months later, the group of twenty-somethings formed Boner Jams FC and were admitted into the Greater Seattle Soccer League as Work Doers FC. More than almost any other club WDFC has become synonymous with its mantra of 'Do Work' and the battle to live up to team owner Christopher 'Big Black' Boykin's expectations. Footballin'In September of 2008 the Doers played their first match in the GSSL fourth Division against Rock. The hard fought battle saw WDFC eke out a 4-3 victory with David Myers striking for the club's first ever goal. The clubs tumultous first season saw the Manpons finish with a 8-1-1 record only to be bounced from the playoffs 6-3 by a feisty Greek squad. A virtual unknown commodity, WDFC Striker Nick White lit up the league bagging 14 goals that season. However, WDFC was determined not to let failure send them into the abyss, and they were promoted to the GSSL's second division for the Winter session. At the forefront was 'das wunderkind' Blake Ambrose who signed with WDFC just weeks prior to the season. Led by a new strikeforce, the ailing side battled to a 4-5-1 record and secured a playoff birth against the league's table toppers Thunderbolt Bears. The game saw the Doers thrice go ahead of the Bears only to face penalties to decide the game. In the end the Bears were too much winning 3-2 on penalties, but WDFC was happy with its progress. Despite the strong showing WDFC found themselves in the GSSL's third division during the Spring session. By season's end the 22's were in second place with a 4-1-2 record, narrowly missing out on a championship if not for a late draw with table toppers Stonewall FC. Packin HeatFor the 2009 summer session, Work Doers was once again in the GSSL's second division. And as battles were fought on the field, the results were not in the cards for the fledgling club. Three narrow defeats firmly placed the Doers in fifth place by season's end, finishing with 2-3-2 record. If not for two solid late season showings, the season could have been a major disaster for the club. In match week six, WDFC outplayed Disorderly Conduct bulging the onion bag seven times for a 7-0 shutout. The next week the Pons faced league leaders Stonewall FC. The game saw WDFC put up five goals only to let a three goal lead slip away in the end. The game was a microcosm of the team's season -- flashy play, lots of goals, but an inability to put away teams when it counts.
TitletownIn the Fall 2009 GSSL division 3A campign WDFC won it's first title beating Finn Hill United 6-4 after advancing with a win against Ballard FC 5-1.
