Match ReportSEATTLE (Jan 17th) – With players battling hangovers, WDFC was able to take down several big girls and Seattle Soccer Club with a dazzling 3-2 victory. The Doers had previously beaten Seattle Soccer Club in the winter campaign last year to clinch a playoff spot in division 2B. Missing several key players, Doer manager Jon Augustavo gave the starting nods to keeper David Myers, and midfielders Matt Clark and Paul Mai. The latter filled in admirably for Mark Thinnes who was busy slalom skiing in the Suisse Alps. WDFC drew first blood in the 8th minute when Casey Affleck look-alike Mark Conrad took a crack from 20 yards out. The ball whizzed through the air before taking a deflection off a defender and into the back of the net. “He (Conrad) ripped that one,” said WDFC rover and statistician Derek Long. “I didn’t think it was going in at first, but then I didn’t think women would ever vote either.”
The 22’s would strike again in the 24th minute, but this time it was winger Jon Augustavo who would tally the score sheet. Conrad was sprung free down the right flank and after a few Gordon Bombay-esque dekes, sent in a low hard ball across the face of goal. With his back to the net, Augustavo did his best Cristiano Ronaldo impression and no-look back heeled the ball past the keeper and into the gaping hole. “One of the best I’ve ever scored,” said Augustavo. “I blew an easy one earlier in the game and had to make up for it.” The remainder of the half saw WDFC shut down Seattle Soccer Club, with Myers thwarting the few attacks that penetrated the backline of Kevin Sigley, Nick Augustavo, Pat Cahill, Eric Yates and Eric Englund. Sigley and Augustavo were bestowed dual man of the match honors for their devastating defensive displays on the day. In the second half the Doers continued to push for one more goal and that is what they found in the 50th minute when all-world hipster, Jesse Ramos was sent on a run by a masterful through ball from wunderkind Blake Ambrose. Ramos took several touches before launching a powerful strike past the SSC keeper. “I was feeling good today,” said Ramos who is now displaying Dreadlocks as his favored hair choice. “I came a little late, but still felt I was going to have a good one and I did.” Seattle Soccer Club would manage to find the back of the net with one goal coming by way of goalie error and the other on a questionable foul call near the final whistle.
“We are playing well at the moment,” said Blake Ambrose who spends his days off eating chili. “I wasn’t sure we’d do too well in this division but so far we are holding our own.” Copyright 2010 Work Doers FC |
